Introduction

Peter Doig (born 1959) is one of the world's most renowned living figurative painters. His enigmatic paintings are characterized by their captivating combination of figurative depiction and dreamlike quality. Doig draws on personal memories from his childhood in Canada and more recently his time spent living in Trindad, as well as imagery sourced from photographs and films, to craft images that exist in fantastical, timeless spaces that feel both personal and universal.

Art critic Jonathan Jones said about Doig: "Amid all the nonsense, impostors, rhetorical bullshit and sheer trash that pass for art in the 21st century, Doig is a jewel of genuine imagination, sincere work and humble creativity."

Peter Doig's work is in the collections of numerous international institutions including The British Museum, Musée National d'Art Moderne in Paris, Bonnefanten Museum in Maastricht, National Gallery of Canada, Art Institute of Chicago, MoMA, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Whitney Museum of American Art, National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C., The Hirshhorn Museum, Philadelphia Museum of Art and Dallas Museum of Art.

Peter Doig made his first print with Two Palms in 2008.
