Introduction

Throughout his career, Terry Winters (born 1949) has explored abstraction through a wide range of themes, from the architecture of biological and living systems to the new spatial orders of data visualization. Printmaking has been a pillar of Winters' practice since the early 1980's and he has worked extensively in etching, woodcut, screenprinting and monoprinting.

Winters received his BFA from Pratt Institute, New York, in 1971. His work has been the subject of exhibitions at institutions including the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; the Whitechapel Art Gallery, London; the Kunsthalle Basel; the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin; Staatliche Graphische Sammlung at the Pinakothek der Moderne; the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; and The Drawing Center, New York. Winters lives and works in New York City and Columbia County, New York.

Terry Winters began making work at Two Palms in 1998. Some of the resulting prints can be found in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art; Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; Baltimore Museum of Art; and the Fogg Art Museum at Harvard University.
