We are proud to present Meditations on Corporeality, a showcase of works made by artists currently and formerly on staff at Two Palms.
Works were submitted in response to a single word, corporeal; having, consisting of, or relating to a physical material body. The following works present interpretations ranging from tender depictions of loved ones and manifestations of the subconsious, to intensive processes that meditate on the unseen hands that labor to make them. These multifaceted works employ a number of media, including painting, sculpture, photography, printmaking, and drawing.
Works shown here will be on view for two weekends at Soloway Gallery in Williamsburg, located at 348 S 4th Street. Visit the exhibition June 29 - 30 & July 6 - 7.
OPENING RECEPTION | JUNE 27, 6 - 8PM @ SOLOWAY GALLERY
"I make the drawings quickly and without editing myself. This stream of consciousness process allows the pictures to evolve and unfold like comic frames that bring out honest reflections of my subconscious." - Tom Smith

"This work explores how the energy imbued in everyday objects, and instilled by opposing groups, sets up charged symbolic contraditions; the relic of one, serves as the hex for another. This phenomenon fosters scalar and material shifts in the work that confront the paradox of the shield that is also a weapon; the metaphorical "good" that always requires opposition and otherness." - Christopher Thomas Campbell
"The blocky form of Pyromancer Hand refrences Pre-Colombian and Japanese dogū sculpture. I wanted it to look like it was carved from a single block of stone. Dogū are typically small 'table sized' figres that possibly represented gods and godesses. This hand could be a tribute to a pyromancer of importance." - Jeremy Ruiz
"My Fabric Sculpture series probes the soft assemblies oscillating between geometric and organic structures. The project introduces textiles as a building material, challenging the dominant ideal of architecture as a solid and inflexible entity. Making my painted canvases into container claddings, I accumulate and assimilate chance events including errors and inaccuracies. The yearning for soft materials and the spontaneity in physical execution concurrently form my work." - Tiantian Lou
