Woodcut Monoprints - - Series - Two Palms

Since 2006, Chris Ofili has worked with Two Palms on various series, embracing the unknown outcomes of printmaking to devise unexpected methods for creating monotypes, monoprints and etchings. Since 2010, much of Ofili's work has addressed themes of transformation that derive from Greek and Roman mythology. To create this series of woodcut monoprints featuring satyrs, archers, and other pseudo-mythological subjects, Ofili used a microplane to grate pastel pigment onto wood blocks. The image is transfered to paper through the magic of Two Palms’ hydraulic press. Ofili says, “The process is liberating because it has no burden of the known.”
